ACE Mentor Nashville Huge Success

The ACE Mentor Program of Tennessee introduces high school students throughout Greater Nashville to the excitement, rewards and diverse careers available in the architectural, construction management and engineering professions. Batten | Shaw Construction has been a proud supporter of ACE Mentor for several years. It’s a great program that we encourage our employees to get involved with and becoming a mentor to these young students, President Jimmy Batten said about the program. This year Chris McMaster spent time mentoring a group of students from Glencliff High School. He shares his experience of being a mentor.

I’ve been a proud representative of Batten | Shaw to the ACE Mentor Program for two years. During my time with ACE I have been able to interact with high school students who are interested in the fields of Architecture, Construction, and Engineering.

This program is geared toward getting high school students involved at each facet of construction. Building, design and architecture…ACE covers it all. It is beneficial to interact with these students at a young age so they understand the work that we do on a daily basis in order to help them decide which field of study to enter as they enroll for college.  Throughout the school year students are taken on various field trips to show how all of the different industries and business in Nashville work together.

For example, we went on a jobsite for a renovation project at Centennial Hospital ED. According to students, this was the most eye-opening in terms of project complexity and understanding the design to completion stage. This program is beneficial to Batten | Shaw due to the breadth of knowledge sharing and relationships built with the local schools.

Batten | Shaw is proud to encourage the next generation to explore construction as a career path and are happy to be an open book in every way possible.
